Valley of Erro | Roncesvalles
Navarre
How does it work?
What route does REFOVER's fiber optic take?
The network exits the homes to connect to the branches that lead to two trunk lines that run through the Valley from south to north. Both trunk lines connect to the headend that is currently connected to the NASERTIC trunk network and, from there, via wholesale transport, reach the neutral internet point CATNIX located in Barcelona, which connects us to the Internet with the world through submarine cable.
How is the community network guaranteed?
The guifi·net Foundation is responsible for ensuring that the network is made available, under equal conditions at the best cost, to any operator wishing to offer services, ensuring that good commercial and management practices are applied, and managing potential conflicts between operators by ensuring that the network remains community-managed permanently, preventing anyone from appropriating it.
What services does the fiber optic network offer?
The technical characteristics of the REFOVE connection are, at a minimum, 1 Gbps symmetric up to the aggregation point (PCC). The actual capacity and minimum guaranteed bandwidth will be what the user contracts with the operator.
How are the contracted services guaranteed?
The bandwidth actually available to the Internet is affected by aggregations. These points are managed so that they expand from the moment they reach 50% of their capacity during peak consumption hours.
Currently, the PCC of the Valley of Erro is at 1 Gbps capacity, and that of CATNIX (Barcelona) is 30 Gbps. Regarding latency, which measures time, it is approximately 15 milliseconds or less from the user's connection to the neutral access point of the Internet in Barcelona, CATNIX. We try to avoid the term 'speed' to prevent confusion and use other more precise and specific concepts such as bandwidth capacity, available bandwidth or minimum guaranteed and latency.
For more details or verifications of available bandwidth, use the tools indicated by your provider. It should be noted that very few speed tests are actually accurate starting from 100 Mbps symmetric.
Can I contract services higher than those offered?
Yes. Any service higher than the available capacities or not reflected in the operators' commercial offers can be requested. The provision of these superior services can be done through the operators themselves or through the Foundation so that it can be appropriately assessed and adapted to the user's needs. In any case, the marketing will be through the operator.
What service guarantees are offered?
All operators have a service level agreement (SLA) that describes both the characteristics of the connection and a commitment to response time in the event of an incident depending on the contracted service, and attention during working hours and extended to other hours or holidays. The Foundation seeks to monitor compliance with these commitments to ensure the quality and resilience of the network.
Can I choose an operator?
Yes. You are never forced to choose a specific operator. REFOVE also does not require any permanence from anyone. It is the user who freely connects with the operator they trust the most through a contract and a specific offer.
Where can I request information on prices and services?
Directly from the operators themselves via phone or web. You will also find contact information at the Town Hall through its website.
