The shared optical fiber in the Vall d'Ollo and the Cendea d'Olza

The Town Halls of the Vall d'Ollo and the Cendea d'Olza, together with the citizens and in collaboration with the Guifi.net Foundation, have promoted the arrival of fiber optic with the aim of providing Internet through a shared network, more sustainable and with local operators, thereby fostering the economy of the area.

The residents of the different population centers can now access quality Internet at a fair price with local operators. We eliminate the digital divide; having a fast connection is currently a primary necessity.

Frequently asked questions

The Fiber Optic Network of the Vall d'Ollo and the Cendea d'Olza (Navarra) is an initiative promoted by the Town Halls of the Vall d'Ollo and the Cendea d'Olza in collaboration with the citizens and the Guifi.net Foundation. Currently, it offers Internet access services with fiber optic and fixed and mobile telephony through four local operators: Abaila, Evel, Sisnet, and Wikai.

As a consequence of the refusal of large operators to bring a broadband telecommunications network that is high-quality, fast, and offers the necessary connection services to develop professional and personal tasks in the 21st century, the initiative to promote and deploy a network, alternative to large operators, that provides Internet through shared fiber optic, sustainably and at affordable prices for each home and business arises.

Currently, the towns that have joined the initiative are:

  • Vall d'Ollo:

  • Cendea d'Olza:

Unlike conventional models, in which the ownership of the network is in the hands of a single operator that deploys and exploits it at the same time, a shared network is an infrastructure used as a common good: it belongs to all those actors who have invested in it and use it. Furthermore, it is managed through a series of mechanisms that ensure and prevent anyone from appropriating it, as happens with the management of communal meadows or forests.

This model has advantages, such as:

  • Having an open, free, and neutral network.

  • Sharing the same network with multiple operators (monopoly is avoided).

  • It is more environmentally sustainable because infrastructures are not duplicated.

  • Costs are reduced.

  • Users can choose from different commercial operators.

  • It prevents business from being made with the infrastructure.

We offer a maximum of 1,000 Mbps symmetrical expandable in the future. That is to say, up to 1 Gbps symmetrical. A figure that meets the needs of any user.

In case of doubt, you can request advice from your operator.

The Guifi.net Foundation guarantees that the network can be used on equal terms by any operator that wants to offer services. In addition, it ensures that good commercial and management practices are applied, as well as the resolution of possible conflicts between operators.

Yes, users are the ones who decide which operator they trust and which offers they like best. Additionally, you can change operators participating in the network whenever you want, as there are no commitments.

Here you can check the operators.
