XarxaOptical Fiber Network GRETA advances towards Flix (Ribera d'Ebre)
 

GRETA Network, the fiber optic deployment project promoted by the Ascó City Council with the collaboration of the Guifi·net Foundation and the citizen platform #EnsToquenLaFibra, which already provides Internet access to the residents of Ascó through two operators (Punt d'Accés and Ebrecom), continues to advance towards Flix on February 3, 2021.

The GRETA Network aims to provide Internet access to the regions of Ribera d'Ebre, Terra Alta, and les Garrigues through a participatory fiber optic network with coverage throughout the territory and multi-operator. The construction and management of the network, thanks to the contributions of individuals, municipalities, and companies, make it possible to bring Internet access to the entire area in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way while eliminating territorial disparities. Additionally, the presence of different local operators allows users to choose from different commercial offers at fair prices, reducing costs and boosting the local economy.

Thus, the deployment tasks of the GRETA backbone network connecting Ascó and the municipality of Flix are expected to be completed in approximately fifteen days (February 15). This is the scheduled date to begin the deployment of the fiber optic network within the municipality itself and thus start providing coverage to different households, businesses, or municipal facilities.

The project continues to attract interest from various municipalities and citizens who, in the case of Flix, have already started making contributions to the Guifi·net Foundation to contribute to the infrastructure construction. Future users of the GRETA Network in Flix will be able to contract internet services through the following local operators: Punt d'Accés, Ebrecom, Som Connexió, Som Internet, and Vola.cat.
