From this week, the residents of Ascó can already enjoy fiber optic Internet with the same speed and price conditions as urban areas thanks to the Xarxa GRETA cooperative project promoted by the Town Council with the collaboration of the guifi.net Foundation and the Platform #EnsToquenLaFibra.
This network kicks off in Ascó with the intention of continuing the deployment to the Ribera d’Ebre, Terra Alta, and Garrigues to address the connectivity problems of these regions.
Therefore, it is a collaborative project among municipalities where the network is shared for the common good. This reduces costs, addresses problems of territorial imbalance, and boosts the local economy.
The initiative has already sparked interest from many neighboring municipalities and several town councils, such as La Torre de l’Espanyol or Bovera, which have already shown their willingness to participate.
Thanks to this initiative, the residents of Ascó can already contract internet services over fiber optic with two local operators, Ebrecom and Punt d’Accés. However, the network remains open to the participation of any other operator.
The promoters' intention is to continue the deployment to other municipalities once the project is established in Ascó, and for this reason, they have created a form where residents of the area can express their interest in it reaching their villages.
All information can be found on the project's website: https://xarxagreta.cat.
