Zumaia amplia cobertura als barris de Narrondo i Artadi

The fiber optic network already offers services in these two neighborhoods of the town of Zumaia (Basque Country)
More than 100 new homes and businesses in Zumaia can now connect to the shared fiber optic network through the four operators (ABAILA, BIKOTEK, EVEL and MARA). Residents of the Narrondo and Artadi neighborhoods can now also contract the Internet and telephone services offered by these four local operators at affordable prices.

Zuntz Optikoa Zumaia (ZOZ) has been operational for several months offering Internet services through fiber optics to the vast majority of the population of Zumaia; during the past month of March, the deployment was expanded to offer coverage to these two neighborhoods. It is expected that throughout this spring and summer, residents of Narrondo and Artadi will continue to join the initiative.

ZOZ, promoted by the Zumaia City Council and in collaboration with the Guifi·net Foundation, already has nearly 50 kilometers of deployed next-generation fiber optics with the aim of providing a high-capacity Internet connection through a participatory, more sustainable model with a variety of local operators.

The construction and management of this network in a cooperative, shared format is possible thanks to the collaboration and contributions of various driving agents, including the citizens themselves, who can benefit from a reduced monthly fee by assuming part of the cost of the infrastructure. In this way, they also help to extend the network throughout the area in a more sustainable manner with the aim of eliminating the digital gap between urban and rural areas.
