Marata a punt de connectar-se a la fibra òptica de guifi·net

The guifi·net commons network will offer services through three operators

This July all the neighbors of Marata (Les Franqueses del Vallès) can now enjoy Internet services with the shared network of Guifi·net through three operators

After several months of coordination, planning, permits, and deployment tasks, the fiber optic network of guifi·net is now fully operational in the homes of Marata thanks to the impetus and co-financing from its neighbors and the support of the Marata Cultural Center, the Guifi·net Foundation, and the three operators that will offer the services: Ticae, WaiFai, and SomConnexió.

The more than 40 scattered homes and farms in this nucleus of Vallès Oriental can now contract high-capacity Internet services of up to 1Gbps through the shared network. A shared network, more sustainable and high-capacity, offering Internet and telephone services through these three local operators.

This also bets on a model of proximity economy where the geographical location and composition of dispersion should not be a reason for discrimination to access quality Internet in the 21st century.

Therefore, all those houses and farms interested can now contact the operators, inquire about their services and rates, and enjoy the services offered by the network.

The project, which has had significant financial participation from the community, ensures and promotes that the neighbors who have helped co-finance the deployment of this network model can enjoy a reduction and savings, for life, in their monthly fee.

A different, alternative fiber optic network...

More sustainable

Our model focuses on the management and use of a single infrastructure. We ensure that there is no waste of resources as infrastructures are not duplicated.

Participatory

The network model favors and ensures that the infrastructure belongs to all the actors who have made contributions and use it, including the community itself. We manage the network as a common good.

Multi-operator

The network is made available to all operators in the area who want to offer services. In this way, we ensure more supply, affordable and competitive prices, and avoid monopolies.

The open, free, and neutral network
