The Sakananet Network, an initiative promoted and funded by the Sakana Commonwealth, the Sakana Development Agency, citizens, the Government of Navarra (civil works), and the Guifi·net Foundation, already provides Internet access through five operators: ABAILA, EVEL, SISNET, SONA, and WIKAI.

After several months of work in promotion and deployment, Internet connection through a multi-operator network model is already a reality in the following municipalities involved in Sakana: Arakil (Aizkorbe, Urritzola, Izurdiaga, Errotz, Ekai, Etxeberri, Egiarreta, Hiriberri, Etxarren, and Ihabar), Irañeta, and Arruazu. Waiting to connect the cores of Satrustegi and Zuhatzu and start the next deployment phase.

Thus, all houses, businesses, and companies that wish to do so can now join Sakananet through the five operators to whom they can consult the services and rates and choose the ones that best suit their needs.

In addition, residents who connect to Sakananet have the opportunity to save and reduce their monthly Internet fee by making a contribution to the project.

In recent weeks, the Sakananet network already has its first connected users from these municipalities. Furthermore, the population, which plays an important role in the participation in the management and deployment of the network, has already made the first contributions.

Sakananet is a multi-operator fiber optic network model that advocates for:

  • Bringing quality Internet to citizens through a more sustainable, quality network, at affordable prices, and with local operators

  • good communal infrastructure management by all contributing and utilizing agents, including citizens.

  • An open, free, and neutral network used by different operators. In this way, more services are offered, monopoly is avoided, and the local economy is promoted. On the other hand, it is more sustainable, as there is no duplication of infrastructure.

The construction and management of this network model are possible thanks to the collaboration and contributions of different driving agents, including citizens themselves. Thus, residents who connect to Sakananet have the opportunity to voluntarily promote the growth of the project and reduce their monthly fee, for life, in the concept of "line fee" by contributing to the project.

Residents who wish to help finance the project will have to make a contribution, via the web, of 1,200€ (average cost of fiber arrival to a home) to the Guifi·net Foundation. With this contribution, the user:

Cover its infrastructure and help expand the network.

You will not have to pay more for this "line fee" concept to the chosen operator.

You will enjoy a monthly discount on the bill with the contracted operator.

You can reduce €17 monthly on the bill and, therefore, save €204 annually.

*The contribution of €1,200 can be made in a single payment, divided into two payments (€600*2) or up to three (€400*3). If the contribution is not made, the user will simply contract the services with any of the involved operators, but without being able to opt for the €17 discount on the monthly fee.
